International cultural conference in Copenhagen - International Outlook and Commercial Strategy

Challenge

The cultural sector is facing increasing demands to demonstrate its value in a society under pressure from reduced public funding and changing audience expectations.

The challenge is to develop sustainable business models that balance financial revenue with the purpose and societal role of culture.

Solution

BARC developed and programmed Kulturkraft 2024 in collaboration with the Confederation of Danish Industry and Kulturmonitor, with a focus on meaningful self-generated revenue.

The conference explored how cultural institutions can connect purpose, business, and societal impact through new partnerships and strategic approaches.

The programme brought together international and Nordic profiles from, among others:

  • Gallagher & Associates (US)

  • Publicis Luxe (FR)

  • Climate-KIC (EU)

  • Munchmuseet (NO)

  • Substrakt (UK)

  • University of Borås (SE)

  • Telemarksforskning (NO)

With the themes Commerce, Communication, and Community, the conference focused on how cultural institutions can develop new revenue models rooted in their core purpose, strengthen the interplay between audiences, communities, and business, and form partnerships across sectors. At the same time, it highlighted the cultural sector’s role in addressing emerging societal challenges, giving participants concrete perspectives and tools to work strategically with both revenue generation and societal contribution.
