Partnership Strategy
Challenge
ARKEN faced a range of classic challenges: strengthening local anchoring, attracting new audiences, and moving away from the perception of being an elitist cultural institution.
At the same time, there was a need to develop new cultural products capable of engaging both local citizens and international visitors - and to create a stronger connection between art, nature, and place.
Solution
BARC facilitated a development programme within CopenCore, initiated by Wonderful Copenhagen as part of their work with sustainable destination development and strengthening local anchoring in tourism.
Wonderful Copenhagen contributed the overall framework, methodology, and focus on developing new experience formats that can both engage local communities and attract international visitors.
Through workshops with ARKEN and Ishøj Nature Centre, a shared strategic and creative brief was developed, forming the foundation for new cultural products and partnerships.
The programme focused on:
Connecting art and nature in new, sensory experiences
Creating communities between locals and visitors
Activating local stakeholders and businesses as co-creators
Developing scalable and sustainable cultural products
The result is a concrete conceptual foundation for new experiences - including guided tours, workshops, and events - positioning ARKEN as an active host for the local area and a stronger destination within the broader tourism ecosystem.
